The historic riverside community of New Hope, Pennsylvania celebrates "Second Saturday" on December 13, 2008 with a variety of holiday activities. A highlight of the evening is the guided candlelight walking tour, offering facts and anecdotes about the galleries and the famed New Hope art scene. The tour is free and begins at 7:00 p.m. at the New Hope Visitors Center on the corner of Main and Mechanic Streets.
From noon to 2:00 p.m., "Second Saturday" kicks off with the annual Monroe Crossing. Coryell's Ferry Militia, New Hope's own reenactment group, proudly interprets the successful maneuver executed by Lt. James Monroe and his men under orders from General George Washington on Christmas night in 1776. The reenactment includes a parade, military formation, historic reading, river crossing (weather permitting) and cannon demonstration.
